Charles Lindy Miller - Paragould

Charles Lindy Miller, 76, of Paragould died Wednesday, June 16, 2004, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro. Born in Silverdale, Mo., he was an army veteran of World War II and a longtime banker in Southeast Missouri and Northeast Arkansas. He served as chairman of the board of Southern Bank of Commerce in Paragould, Jonesboro, Brookland and Leachville as well as past president and chief executive officer of Cardwell State Bank for 25 years.

He had served as president and CEO of American State Bank in Wilson, First State Bank in Somerville, Tenn., and was executive vice president of First National Bank in Wynne. He was a Shriner and a member of the Al Chymia Shrine Temple in Memphis and the Scottish Rite in West Memphis. He also was a member of the Hornersville Masonic Lodge and the Dunklin County American Legion. Miller was a past president of the Cardwell Rotary Club and had served as a leader in the Boy Scouts of America. He also worked in youth baseball for 30 years. He was a member of the Cardwell Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Louise Barrett Miller, of the home; a son, Greg Miller, of Paragould; three sisters, Helen Petty of Lake Ozark, Mo., Ella Mae Crotts of McRae and Hazel Miller of Florissant, Mo.; and two grandchildren, Chris Miller and Linda Miller, both of Paragould.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and two sisters.

The funeral was held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Mitchell Funeral Home in Paragould with Herbert Starr officiating. Burial was in the Cardwell Cemetery.
