Lee Spurlock - Leachville

Lee Spurlock, 70, of Leachville, died Friday, April 23, 2004, at Regional Medical Center of Northeast Arkansas.

Born at Walnut Ridge, he was the son of the late James Ellis Spurlock and was a 1951 graduate of Marked Tree High School.

He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars serving one enlistment in the United States Marine Corps and 23 years service in the United States Air Force. He was a retired industrial coordinator for the State of Arkansas Vocational technical Department and was also a commercial pilot and flight instructor.

He was a former Den Master for the Leachville Cub Scout Webelos Troop and was a volunteer for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life and Camp Quality Children's Camp in Bald Knob. He was a member of the Monette Methodist Church and was active as a lay speaker and President of the Northeast Arkansas Methodist Men's Association.

Survivors include his wife, Shelia Bogart Spurlock, of the home; a son, Danny Spurlock of Bartlett, Tenn.; a daughter, LeeAnn Pirtle of Somerville, Tenn.; a step-son, Chuck Brown, of Leachville; his mother, Ida Spurlock, of Monette; a brother, Johnny Spurlock, of Harrisburg; a sister, Pat Spurlock, of Harrisburg; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Spurlock, and a sister, Brenda Spurlock.

The funeral was held at 3 p.m. Monday at the Howard Funeral service Chapel in Leachville with Rev. Doyle Berckefeldt officiating. Burial was at the Leachville Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were James Keith, Randy Ladd, Franklin Edgin, Stan Whitlow, Jerry Reed, Jim York, Claude Earl Barnett, and Ray Thomas. The Monette United Methodist Men served as honorary pallbearers.
