Henry Gaylen Sanders - Caraway

Henry Gaylen Sanders, 62, of Caraway, died Friday, Aug. 15, 2003, at St. Bernard's Medical Center in Jonesboro.

He was employed by Wal-Mart and was a member of the Rivervale Baptist Church, where he served as Sunday school superintendent. Formerly of Paragould, he had lived in the Caraway area for 38 years. He was an Arkansas U.S. Marine veteran of the Korean conflict and member of the American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Henry and Cora Sanders; three sisters, Barbara, Ida Mae and Pauline Sanders; and one brother, J.Q. Sanders.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Sanders of the home; four sisters, Roma Kirkland of Falls Church, Va., and Sybil Nations, Thelma Bennett, and Verna Chapmon, all of Paragould; one son, Steven Sanders of Caraway, and his wife Melissa; one daughter, Tana Hopper of Caraway; and five grandchildren, Steven Wesley Sanders, Matthew Kyle Sanders, Karlee Shea Sanders, Reed Sullivan Hopper and Cadey Caroline Hopper.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 18, at Rivervale Baptist Church with Rev. Jessie Hodges officiating. Burial was at Caraway Cemetery under the direction of Gregg Funeral Home of Monette.

Active pallbearers were Lea Payne, Bill Riley, Larry Brooks, Bill Roach, Rudy Anderson and Malcom Sanders. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Rivervale Baptist Church.
