Birl Noel "Bill" Adams - Leachville

Birl Noel "Bill" Adams, 83, of Leachville, died Sunday, June 22, 2003, at his home. Born at El Paso, he was the won of the late Orn and Emma Neal Adams and had been a Leachville resident since 1935. Mr. Adams retired from the Buffalo island School District in 1991 after 44 years service which included the former Leachville School District. He was an avid sportsman, having coached many pee wee basketball teams over the years. In 1946, Mr. Adams won the highly publicized "National Cotton Picking contest" in Blytheville.

He is survived by his wife, Martha Hubbard Adams, of the home; two sons, David Parham of Gibson, Ga., and Terry Adams of Lawrenceville, Ga.; six daughters, Brenda Stone, Janie Rogers and Patty Barrett, all of Leachville, Diane Tucker and Cindy Carle both of Monette and Sherry Lairsey of Monroe, Ga.; two brothers, Lloyd Adams of Piggott, and Charles "Boe" Adams of Leachville; three sisters, Bonnie Lloyd of Irving, Texas, Rose Gray and Tulula Cagle, both of Leachville; 21 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today (Tuesday) at Howard Funeral Chapel in Leachville, with Rev. Charles Stoddard and Rev. Doug Applegate officiating. Burial will be in the Leachville Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Eddie Adams, Mark Teguns, Mitchell Slayton, Richard Slayton, Steve Slayton and Brent Slayton.

Honorary pallbearers will include Ronnie Kennett, Snowden Hawkins, R.D. Jackson, Ronnie McFarland, Bob Gray, Sonny Ladd, Tommy Reed, Carl Drury and Clarence Cornish.
