Colonel Ernest Franklin Barrett - Jonesboro

Colonel Ernest Franklin Barrett, 78, of Jonesboro, died Friday, April 25, 2003, at the V.A. Medical Center in Memphis. Born at Cardwell, he was the son of the late W.T. and Alma Greer Barrett and was a longtime resident of Arizona before making his home in the Northeast Arkansas and Southeast Missouri area. He was a retired colonel in the U.S. Army, having served in World War II, Korea, Dominican Republic and the Vietnam Wars. He was a recipient of both bronze and silver stars and served his country for over 31 years.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Barrett, of the home; a son, Danny Paul Barrett, of Whitmore Lake, Mich.; a daughter, Jana Kloppe, of Buckeye, Ariz.; three step-daughters, Rhyan Candour of Jonesboro, Elizabeth Baker of Pinckney, Mich.; Mary Rose Masternak, of Inkster, Mich.; a brother, Charles Barrett, of Leachville; two sisters, Nelva Jean Sharp of Bartlett, Tenn., and Louise Miller of Paragould; three grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Marlin Barrett.

The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Howard Funeral Chapel in Leachville with Dwight Harrison officiating. Burial was in the Cardwell Cemetery.

The family requests anyone wishing to leave a lasting memorial consider the Cardwell Cemetery Road Fund.

Pallbearers were Marshall Sharp, Michael Sharp, Dennis Baker, Bob Peel, Roger Poe, Andy Peel and Michael Peel.

Honorary pallbearer was Cliff Cupp.
