Lewis Edwin Townsend - Manila

Lewis Edwin Townsend, born July 5, 1910, at Mammoth Springs, died April 16, 2003, at the age of 92 in the Baptist Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother, three brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Nellie Fleeman Townsend of the home in Manila; a son, Woody M. Townsend of Manila; a brother, Robert Townsend of Orange Beach, Ala.; a sister, Martha Sue Potts of Silver Spring, Md.; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was a retired businessman who owned and operated Planters Oil Co., Inc. of Manila for 45 years. He was a member of the Manila Lions Club for 62 years, a member of the First United Methodist Church of Manila for over 63 years and a charter member of Manila Pilots Association.

The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. April 19 at the First United Methodist Church in Manila with Howard Funeral Service of Leachville in charge of the arrangements. Burial was in the Manila Cemetery.
