Willie Alonzo Chestnut - Manila

Willie Alonzo Chestnut, 87, of Manila died Sunday, Jan. 12, 2003, at St. Bernard's Medical Center in Jonesboro. Born at Newport, he was the son of the late Jake and Mattie Phillips Chestnut and had been a Manila resident most of his life. He was a retired grocer, having owned and operated his own store in Manila for many years. He was a member of Manila First Baptist Church and was an Army veteran of World War II.

He is survived by his stepson, Jack Burgett, of San Jose, Calif.; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Giles Chestnut, in 1980.

A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. Friday at Manila Cemetery with Rev. William Piercy officiating. Howard Funeral Service of Manila was in charge of arrangements.
