Elizabeth Miles - Manila

Elizabeth Hornberger Miles, 87, of Manila, the widow of Hugh Miles, died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002, at the Manila Nursing Center. Born at Manila, she was the daughter of the late John and Claura Gilbert Hornberger and had been a lifelong Manila resident. She was a graduate of Henderson State Teachers College and received a Masters degree in Business education from Arkansas State University in Jonesboro. She served as bookkeeper for the Manila High School for more than 35 years and taught Business Education. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Eastern Star and the Manila Business and Professional Women's Club. Mrs. Miles served several years on the Mississippi County Board of Education.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Ann Miles of Hodgenville, Ky., and her daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Roland Wells of Leachville; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her son, Huey Miles, and her brother, Joe Hornberger.

The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Howard Funeral Chapel in Manila with Rev. Craig Russell officiating. Burial was in the Manila Cemetery.
