John Eugene Watson - Jonesboro

John Eugene Watson, 58, of Jonesboro died Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002, at Methodist Central Hospital in Memphis.

Born at Monette, he was a retired farmer and member of the First United Methodist Church in Jonesboro. A graduate of Arkansas State University, he was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. He was a mason and former president of the Monette Jaycees. He was a former mayor of Monette, served on the Monette City Council, was a member of the fire department, was an emergency medical technician and helped start the Buffalo Island Ambulance Service.

He was the church organist and pianist for the Monette United Methodist Church for many years and was a member of the Songsmen Quartet and the Believers Quartet.

Survivors include his wife, Kay Watson, of the home; and a son, Mike Watson, of Jonesboro.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Gladys Watson.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. today (Tuesday) at Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery and a memorial service will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Jonesboro at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. Fred Haustein will officiate. Gregg Funeral Home of Jonesboro is in charge of arrangements.

Active pallbearers will include employees of Patient Transfer Service in Jonesboro.

Honorary pallbearers will include employees of Buffalo Island EMS.

The family requests anyone wishing to leave a lasting memorial consider the Buffalo Island Ambulance Service, Patient Transfer Service or St. Bernard's Home Health Department.
