Clarence Dawson Jr., 69, of Springfield, Mo., died Friday, Sept. 13, 2002, at his residence. He was retired from McDonnell Douglas Aerospace Corporation in St. Louis after 30 years. He made contributions to Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo Space Programs and to the F15 Eagle, F18 Hornet, AV-88 Harrier and Apache Helicopter Programs. His hobbies included golf and bowling. He was a member of National Heights Baptist Church in Springfield, Mo.

He is survived by his wife, Anna Louise Dawson of the home; two sons, Stephen and wife, Jerrianne Dawson of Virginia Beach, Va., and Brian and Lori Guill of Springfield, Mo.; a daughter, Carol, and husband, Warren Akers, of Springfield, Mo.; two brothers, James Dawson of Grand Blanc, Mich., and DeWayne Dawson of Jefferson City, Mo.; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; six brothers-in-law, five sisters-in-law, and mother-in-law, Anita Cornish.

The funeral was held at 2 p.m. today (Tuesday) at the Gregg Funeral Home Chapel in Monette with Rev. Clarence Cornish officiating. Burial was in Monette Memorial Cemetery with Gregg Funeral Home of Monette in charge of arrangements.
