Gertie Mae Shannon - Monette

Gertie Mae Shannon, 85, of Monette died Friday, June 28, 2002, at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro. She was a homemaker, of the Church of Christ belief and had lived in Arkansas most of her life.

She was preceded in death by two husbands, Johnny Montgomery Hale and Espor Shannon, two daughters, Bertha Rosetta Turnbull Allen and Sallie Marie Leonard, a sister and three brothers.

Survivors include a sister, Marie Mitchell of Corning; two brothers, C.D. Stice of Marion and William Stice of Arlington, Tenn.; three sons, Rev. George Hale of Van Buren, John Hale of Judsonia and Melvin Hale of Monette; two stepsons, Willie Ray Shannon of Paragould and Bill Shannon of North Little Rock; 22 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. today (Tuesday) at the Gregg Funeral Home Chapel in Monette, Rev. Lonnie Smith officiating. Burial will be in Potter Memorial Cemetery in Lepanto.

Active pallbearers will be Eddie Stapp, Joe Hazelwood, Kevin Lawyer, Chad Barron, Chuck Laginess and Mack Potts.

Honorary pallbearers will be Eddie Wayne Landis and Michael Landis.
