Ruth May Fleeman - Cardwell

Ruth May Fleeman, 95, of Cardwell, died Tuesday, March 26, 2002, at the Arkansas Methodist Hospital in Paragould. Born at Geneva, she was the daughter of the late Montgomery and Mary Angeline Davis Brewer and had been a Cardwell resident for most of her life. She attended the Box Elder Grade School near Hornersville and graduated from Hornersville High School. She worked on her father's farm until she started bookkeeping for the Citizens Gin. She, along with her late husband, Grover Fleeman, owned and operated a restaurant in Cardwell as well as a dress shop. She was instrumental in soliciting donations for the care and upkeep of the Cardwell Cemetery. This became a lifelong passion for her. She was a member of the Hornersville Methodist Church where she sold homemade cakes to help pay for the organ and piano. Mr. and Mrs. Fleeman sold their business holdings and bought Gum Slough Island north of Cardwell where they farmed until their retirement. They spent their winters in !

The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Howard Funeral Chapel in Leachville with burial in the Cardwell Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Donna Joy Brewer Sevin, Judy Diane Brewer Williams, Susan Denice Brewer Rouse, Angie Maria Brewer Simpson, Mona Dawn Brewer Broadway and Micah Denice Rouse Johns.
