Clara Mills Smith - Roscommon, Mich.

Clara Mills Smith, 92, of Roscommon, formerly of Flint, Mich., died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2001, at Mercy Hospital in Grayling, Mich. Mrs. Smith was born in Black Oak on July 7, 1909, and was a resident of Flint since 1965. She was a member of Eastgate Baptist Church and was employed at several nursing homes as a cook.

She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Luther E. and Mary Lou, of Tennessee, Rev. T.B. and Loraine of Fort Wayne, Ind., Walter and Joanne of Roscommon; two daughters Sammie Treadway of Catlin, Ill., Molly and husband, Orland Abernathy, of West Memphis; a son-in-law, John McCarthy of Tumbling Shoals; 20 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her son, Henry Donald Smith; daughter, Eva Mae McCarthy, and grandson, Billy Smith.

The funeral was held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, at the Swartz Funeral Home with Rev. Levi Parish officiating. Burial was in Sunset Hills Cemetery.
