Wayne Wallace - Manila

Virgil Wayne Wallace, 73, of Manila, died Friday, Aug. 3, 2001, at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro.

Born at Manila, he was the son of the late Scott and Gerald Mae Wallace and was a life long resident of Manila. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and was an Air Force veteran. He was a graduate of Manila High School and Arkansas State University. He was the former athletic director at Manila High School and had served as head coach for the football, basketball and baseball programs. He was a former professional baseball player/manager with the St. Louis Cardinals.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Parker Wallace of the home; two sons, Scott and Logan Wallace, both of Manila; a daughter, Melanie Wallace Fields of Weatherford, Okla.; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church in Manila, with Rev. William Piercy officiating. Burial followed in the Manila Cemetery under the direction of Howard Funeral Service of Manila.
