Melvin Earnest Hawkins - Paragould

Melvin Earnest Hawkins, 72, of Paragould died Monday, July 9, 2001, at his residence. He was born June 30, 1929 in Leachville. He was the son of the late Earnest Clyde Hawkins and Ethel Dickinson Hawkins. He was a retired maintenance technician at Farr Company. He was a member of Antioch Church of Christ in Cardwell, an Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict.

Survivors include his wife, Lorene Hawkins of Paragould; two sons, Marty Hawkins of Magnolia and Dennis Rogers of Yazoo City, Miss., a daughter and son-in-law, Jo Ann and Kelly Wright of Paragould; three sisters, Deloris Burke of South Fulton, Tenn., Judy Richard of Paragould and Dorothy Staniszewski of South Fulton, Tenn.; six grandchildren, Shellei Rowe and Whitney Nelson, both of Paragould, T.D. Havens, Morgan Rogers and Skylar Rogers, all of Yazoo City, Miss., and Caleb Hawkins of Magnolia; three great-grandchildren, Allison Rowe and Olivia Rowe, both of Paragould, and Danielle Havens of Yazoo City, Miss.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, J.W. Hawkins, and a nephew, Ricky Burke.

The funeral was held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Heath Colonial Chapel in Paragould with David Flanery officiating. Burial was in Greene County Memorial Gardens at Paragould under the direction of Heath Funeral Home.
