Lions trounce Piggott 82-31 in conference opener
Manila opened their 3A-3 conference season Tuesday night at home by thrashing Piggott 82-31 in senior boys action.
The Lions clung to a 14-11 lead after the first break but outscored the Mohawks 20-2 in the second quarter to take a 34-13 halftime lead. Manila continued its offensive onslaught in the third period and built a commanding 72-25 advantage after three quarters.
Abraham Lopez pumped in 18 points to top the Lions. Brock Birmingham and Trenton Thomas added 17 points apiece. Trey Gossett paced the Mohawks with 11 points.
In the junior high contest, Manila took down Piggott 55-34. The Lions placed three players in double figures, led by Jake Baltimore’s game high 18 points. Dax Davison had 15 while Brayden Nunnally chipped in 10. Ethan Ralph led Piggott with 14 points.
Manila (5-2, 1-0) will return to the hardcourt Tuesday night when they play host to Corning. The Lions will travel to Rivercrest for a makeup game Wednesday night. Manila is scheduled to play at Osceola on Friday.
