Lady Rebels begin conference season with wins over Rector, Salem
Riverside opened its 2A-3 conference slate with a pair of wins last week, defeating Rector 57-28 Tuesday night at Lake City before closing the week with a convincing 50-32 victory Friday night at Salem.
Riverside jumped on Rector in the first quarter and led 21-11 after the first break. The Lady Rebels outscored the Lady Cougars 16-2 in the second stanza and led 37-13 at the half. Riverside increased its advantage to 49-14 after three periods, invoking the mercy rule.
Carolina Hoffman paced the Lady Rebels with 16 points while Lotti Hoffman scored 12 and Briley Douglas added 10. Grace Puckett contributed nine, Hailey Carr chipped in eight while Anna Meurer added two points. Riverside connected on 12-18 foul shots and made three treys.
Gabby Clark paced the Lady Cougars with 12 points. Rector was 5-9 from the foul stripe and drilled five triples.
In the junior high contest, Rector slipped past Riverside 29-27. Madison Wolfenbarger led the Lady Cougars with nine points.
Hannah Gosa topped Riverside with eight. Lexi Moyer scored six while Ali Towles and Gracie Washington chipped in five points apiece. Kaley Stevens tallied two while Kalli Shasteen added one point.
Riverside raced to a 15-2 lead after the first quarter in their victory over Salem. The Lady Rebels held a 33-15 halftime advantage before taking a 39-23 lead into the final frame.
Puckett paced the Lady Rebels with 16 points. Carolina Hoffman scored 14 while Douglas added 12.
Salem took the junior high game 52-33.
The Lady Rebels (10-3, 2-0) will face a pair of stiff tests this week beginning Monday night when they host rival Marmaduke at Lake City. Riverside will close the week Thursday night when they travel to Melbourne to take on the Lady Bearkatz.
