A groundbreaking ceremony was held Monday, ov. 26, at the future site of the Buffalo Island Medical Clinic in Monette. In spite of the cold, windy day, a large crowd gathered for the special event. The new 3,500 square foot clinic will be built at the corner of Highway 18 and Highway 139.

"This is an excellent, long-term commitment for Buffalo Island through St. Bernards," Dr. Brian Baltz said. "This is not for me and it is not for St. Bernards, it is for the community."

Dr. Baltz has been part of the Buffalo Island community for four years when he joined Dr. Dennis Partin in the Monette clinic. Two and a half years ago, he and Sarah Crook, APN, began serving at the Leachville clinic, also. They divide their time between the two clinics.

"We are excited to grow here in Craighead County and offer a new facility to our patients in this area," John Lieblong, physician services vice president with St. Bernards, said.

Jim Loflin with Tridant Builders said the project should be completed by the summer, if weather permits. He said they are looking forward to getting the project started.

Monette Mayor Jerry "Chub" Qualls and Leachville Mayor Rodney Robertson took part in the groundbreaking ceremony expressing their appreciation to St. Bernards and Dr. Baltz for their efforts in providing health care to the residents of the area.

"This is a special day for me and the community," Dr. Baltz said. "On behalf of myself and the staff, thank you all for trusting us. Maintaining health care in our small communities is very important."

Dr. Baltz thanked Eric Watson for grilling hot dogs, Centennial Bank for their suppport and Jim Loflin with Tridant.
