Riverside honors Veterans
Riverside High School welcomed veterans and guests as they honored area veterans. Riverside alternates veteran ceremonies each year at the high school and a home basketball game.
This year's event was held at the school, and Kaley Stevens welcomed everyone. The Colors were presented by Trumann ROTC.
Matt Ziegler, high school principal, led the Pledge of Allegiance followed by the National Anthem by Riverside Mixed and Chamber Choir.
The Alamo March was played by the Riverside Band and Stars and Stripes by the Chamber Choir.
Guest speaker was Spc. Michael Whatley. Whatley is a graduate of Earle High School, and he currently resides in Jonesboro. He has a degree in diesel technology from Mid-South Community College.
Specialist Whatley serves as a member of the Army National Guard. He has served for 11 years and has completed two tours of duty in Afghanistan.
"We are all very pleased to have Specialist Michael Whatley here today to speak for our Veterans Day Assembly," Stevens said.
A Patriotic Festival was played by Riverside Band and Choir.
Taps, played by Austin Brooks, Riverside band member, ended the ceremony.
All veterans and guests were invited to a luncheon at Refuge Church.
