Mustangs race past Palestine Wheatley and Armorel
Buffalo Island Central picked up a pair of victories in senior boys basketball action last week. The Mustangs stormed past Palestine Wheatley 55-32 Monday night at the Mustang Athletic Complex in Monette before clobbering Armorel 71-38 Friday on the road.
Devin Pemberton pumped in 17 points to lead the Mustangs past Palestine Wheatley. Blaine Wildy also hit double figures, scoring 10 points. Kaleb Dublin tallied nine, Tate Schooley scored five, Kyle Thrasher and Drake Mitchell chipped in four points each, Taylor Gipson had three while Grady Peel contributed two points. Whit Cagle added one point to round out the Mustang scoring attack.
In junior high action, BIC blasted Palestine Wheatley 52-22. Luis Reta led the Mustangs with eight points. Parker Anderson and Mikey Brown scored six points apiece, Brayden Carmichael and Caden Whitehead tallied five points each, Aiden Neldon and Trey Fry pitched in four points apiece while Dawson Stewart and Nicholas Patterson netted three points each. Max McCord, Jack Edwards, Jax Whitley and Hank Hurst all added two points apiece.
In BICís victory over Armorel, the Mustangs raced to a 37-17 halftime lead. BIC held a 55-30 advantage after three periods of play. Dublin pumped in 20 points to pace the Mustangs while Edwards chipped in 10 more. Quinn Crosskno led the Tigers with 10 points.
In the junior high game, Whitehead fell one block short of a triple double to help keep the Mustangs unbeaten on the season at 4-0. Whitehead scored 12 points, pulled down 10 rebounds and blocked nine shots in BICí s 35-22 defeat of the Tigers.
BIC will return to the hardcourt Tuesday when they host Mammoth Spring. The Mustangs will entertain Armorel Friday night for Homecoming.
