Corning squeezes past Riverside 53-51
Riverside’s fourth quarter rally fell just short as the Rebels lost a close 53-51 decision on the road Tuesday night at Corning.
Riverside jumped in front 16-14 after the first break, but the Bobcats fought back in the second stanza to take a 26-23 halftime advantage. Corning increased its lead to 40-34 after three quarters.
Colby Briney paced the Bobcats with 12 points. Dylan Woolard scored 11 while Lucas Barajas added 10 points. Corning struggled from the foul stripe, making just 12-28 attempts, but made up for their free throw deficiency by canning seven three pointers.
M.J. Wilkinson dropped in four three-point bombs and scored 15 points to lead the Rebels. Steven Stroud tallied 14, Gage Crews and Justin Berry had nine points apiece while Traven Weaver and Ethan Boatman chipped in two points each. Riverside hit 15-22 free throws and knocked down four three pointers.
In the junior high game, Corning dealt the Rebels a heartbreaking 36-35 defeat. Eli Mason led the Bobcats with 17 points.
Carl Gallapoo and John Marcus Shinall paced the Rebels with 10 points apiece. Easton Hatch scored nine while Trae Barnes added six points.
Riverside hits the road for a pair of nonconference games this week. The Rebels travel to Ridgefield Christian Tuesday and Crowley’s Ridge Academy on Friday.
