Murelene Walker, fifth and sixth grade math teacher at Buffalo Island Central, received a welcome surprise on Monday, Oct. 29. She was nominated and received the Favorite Teacher award. She was presented with a $500 check from Arvest Bank.

Ms. Walker has taught for 15 years. She started her teaching career at Arkansas Northeastern College in adult education where she taught for four years. She then started teaching math at Buffalo Island Central Elementary.

Joe Verser and Shelly Jackson with Arvest made the presentation. Ms. Walker is still researching what to purchase with the gift. She wants to use the money in a way to benefit the most students.

Her fifth and sixth grade classes add up to about 120 students in her classroom every day.

Principal Kima Stewart expressed her appreciation to Arvest bank and to the dedicated teachers at BIC.
