Benjamin Luther Atkinson
Benjamin Luther Atkinson, 82, of Leachville, died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2018, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould. Born in Jonesboro to the late Chester and Mary Mellard Atkinson, he was raised in Hardy and was a 1954 graduate of Hardy High School. He attended Arkansas State University and later served two years in the U.S. Army. He had been a Leachville resident since 1963 and was retired from American Greetings in Osceola. Ben had attended the First United Methodist Church in Leachville and was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and the Sons of the Veterans of the Civil War.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Joe Atkinson, and a son, Adam Atkinson.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Carolyn Cochran Atkinson of Leachville.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Howard Funeral Service Chapel in Leachville with Rev. Jimmy Anderson officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. at Union Cemetery in Union, Ark.
The family will receive visitors Thursday from 9 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
