Junior Lions outgun Mustangs
Manila Junior Lions hosted the Hoxie Mustangs Thursday night in conference action.
Quaterback Tanner Miller struck first for the Lions offense with a design trick play resulting in a wide open Jackson Roddy for a Manila touchdown. Overton's two point conversion gave the Lions a 8-0 lead with 4:28 to play in the first quater.
Lions wasted little time getting back on the board after the opening score.
Tanner Miller found Chance Miller open in the flap and delivered another touchdown strike. The 49-yard throw and catch extended the Lions lead 14-0 with 1:37 left to play in the first quater.
Defense played a big role for the Lions. The Mustangs were held to a total of 120 yards. Despite Manila's defense, Mustang quaterback Cade Forrester scrambled his way into the end zone for a 31 yard touchdown run with 1:23 to play in the second quarter. Forrester's two conversion was good, sending Manila to the locker room at half time with 14-8 lead.
The second half was slow for the Lions and the Mustangs. Lions struck again in the final minutes of the fourth quarter. Tanner Miller scampered his way into the end zone for a 27 yard gain ending score. Overton's two point conversion stamped the Lions conference victory over the Mustangs 22-8.
The Junior Lions will be in action this Thursday night at Walnut Ridge.
