Rebel boys open new season with split
Riverside opened its 2018-2019 basketball season, splitting a pair of games Thursday and Friday nights.
The Rebels dropped a 61-46 decision Thursday night to Viola. The Longhorns held a 40-39 edge heading into the fourth quarter, but outscored Riverside 21-7 in the final frame to pull away for the win.
Gage Harris pumped in a game high 29 points to lead Viola. Gage Crews recorded a double-double for Riverside, scoring 13 points while pulling down 15 rebounds. M.J. Wilkinson also hit double digits for the Rebels, pouring in 13 points.
Riverside bounced back Friday night to even their record at 1-1 with a 65-48 victory over Armorel. The Rebels led 17-12 after the first break and outscored the Tigers 24-5 in the second quarter to take a 41-17 halftime advantage. Riverside led 53-27 after three quarters.
Wilkinson paced Riverside with 19 points. Crews scored 14 and grabbed nine boards while Steven Stroud added 13 points. Quinn Crosskno topped the Tigers with 21 points while Hunter Holland chipped in 11.
Riverside took the junior boys game 41-32.
Riverside returns to action Tuesday night when they take on Crowley’s Ridge Academy in the home opener at Lake City. The Rebels will play host to Ridgefield Christian on Friday.
