Lions slip past Corning 34-30
Manila outlasted Corning 34-30 in senior high football action Sept. 28 at Corning. The loss kept the Bobcats winless on the season while the Lions picked up their third victory of the year.
Corning held a 16-14 edge after the first quarter and took a 24-20 lead into the dressing room at intermission. Manila scored a touchdown in the third quarter to pull ahead 27-24 before each team swapped scores in the final period.
Layne Sims rushed 20 times for 149 yards and two scores and completed five of six pass attempts for 81 yards and another touchdown. Ethan Navarro carried eight times for 92 yards and a score. Jacob McCollum had five carries for 58 yards and a touchdown while Brett Carter rushed 11 times for 67 yards. Navarro caught two passes for 49 yards and a touchdown while McCollum, Carter and Michael Parker all snared one reception a piece.
Manila finished with 426 yards total offense, including 345 on the ground.
