Manila School Board fills positions
Manila School Board met in a special session May 21, interviewing coach applicants, hiring and approving transfers for the 2018-2019 school year.
After coach interviews and an executive session, the board reconvened with Superintendent Pam Castor recommending the hiring of Alexandra Hart for girls basketball. Originally from Canada, she has been coaching at Pine Bluff. The board voted unanimously to hire Hart.
All board members, Jeremy Jackson, Tracey Reinhart, Monte Middleton, Johnny McCain, Tommy Wagner, Danny Robbins and Paul Hicks were present.
The board also voted unanimously to hire Samantha Drewett as elementary teacher.
The board voted in favor of Steven Milligan serving as athletic director. Milligan will be joining the high school staff as assistant principal.
Mark Manchester, high school principal and athletic director, will transfer to a high school teaching position.
John Deaton, junior high boys basketball coach and middle school dean of students, will transfer to half time assistant elementary principal and half time assistant middle school principal.
Board member Middleton said he wanted to publicly express his appreciation to Paul Wayne Hicks for his willingness to step up and serve when he was needed.
Mr. Hicks was appointed to serve the remainder of a term when a board member stepped down.
“I think Monte spoke for all of us,” President Jackson said. “We appreciate your service.”
“It has been an honor to serve with you guys,” Hicks said. “You are all like me, you all have a heart for this school. I just want to say God bless our school and let's always pray for it.”
