Lions punch ticket to Class 3A State Baseball Tournament

Manila scored seven runs in the first inning and went on to blitz Yellville Summit 12-1 in the first round of the 3A Region 3 Tournament Friday afternoon at Harrison. The victory earned the Lions a berth in this week’s Class 3A State Baseball Tournament at Smackover.

Brady Clark’s two-run triple ignited Manila’s opening inning outburst. Joel Burrow, Layne Sims, Anthony Lopez and Brock Birmingham also had RBIs in the first frame.

Abraham Lopez earned the win, working two shut-out, no-hit innings. Lopez fanned four and did not allow a walk. Michael Parker finished the game, pitching three innings, allowing one earned run and Yellville’s only hit of the game.

Clark, Birmingham, and Ethan Navarro all had two hits apiece to pace the Lion offense. Clark had a single and scored twice in addition to his two-run triple. Birmingham had a pair of RBI singles and scored a run while Navarro singled, tripled, scored once, and drove in a run. Burrow slapped a two-run single and scored twice. Sims singled, scored a run and drove in two while Jorgensen, Jeremiah Perez, and Jackson Imler all scored runs.

Caleb Sasser had an RBI single for Yellville Summit. Tyler Ramey suffered the loss.

The Lions will open state tournament play Thursday afternoon at 5:30.
