Lady Lions come up short for state tourney bid
Manila’s Lady Lions fell short in their bid to gain a state softball tournament berth, losing 8-3 to Mountain View in the first round of 3A-3 Regional Tournament Friday at Harrison.
Mountain View held a 1-0 edge over Manila entering the bottom of the fourth inning, but the Lady Yellowjackets erupted for seven runs in the bottom of the inning to take an 8-0 advantage. Kadyn Johnson cracked a two-run single. Abby Rains smashed a two-run double before Aubrey Isbell capped off the rally with a run-scoring double.
The Lady Lions fought back, scoring two runs in the sixth and one in the seventh. Sasha Pannells hammered a homerun to lead the Lady Lions offensively. Brailey Hampton belted a pair of singles and scored a run. Ali Smith singled in a run while Jill Helton had a base hit and scored once. Madison Bibbs added an RBI.
Ashten Wallace pitched six innings and took the loss. Wallace surrendered eight runs, but only one was earned as the Lady Lions committed three errors in the field. Wallace gave up eight hits, fanned eight and walked one.
Lily Minick was the winning pitcher for Mountain View. Minick went the distance, allowing three runs, one earned on five hits. Minick struck out eight and issued two walks.
