Lady Mustangs fall in district tournament opener
Buffalo Island Central could only muster two hits on the day as the Lady Mustangs fell 15-0 to Salem in three innings this past Thursday in the 2A-2 district tournament in Salem. BIC ends their season with a 5-13 record.
Emma Grady struck out leading off for BIC as Hannah Carle followed by striking out. Olivia Cornish singled before Jaelynn Cates grounded out for the third out.
Salem used a walk and two base hits to plate two runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 2-0 lead after one inning of play. Lexi Walls struck out to lead off the top of the second inning for the Lady Mustangs before Holly Stockton drew a walk. Taylor Cole popped out as Victoria Esparza reached on an error that sent Stockton to second base. Brianna Lambert grounded out for out three keeping the score 3-0 Lady Greyhounds. Salem sent nine batters to the plate in the bottom of the second inning scoring four runs to increase their lead to 6-0 after two innings.
BIC went three up and three down in the top of third inning as Grady popped out, Carle watched strike three go by and Cornish flew out. Salem again sent nine batters to the plate in the bottom half and tacked on six more runs to make the score 12-0 Lady Greyhounds. Cates popped out leading off the top of the fourth for BIC as Walls flew out to left field. Salem scored three more runs in the bottom half of the fourth making it 15-0 ending the game via the run rule.
Corning and Cole each had a hit for the Lady Mustangs at the plate. Carle took the loss as she pitched three and one-third innings giving up 15 runs on 11 hits with five walks, one strikeout and one hit batter for BIC.
