Lady Rebels run-rule Marked Tree 15-5
Riverside rallied from a 5-4 deficit, scoring seven runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to post a come from behind 15-5 victory over Marked Tree in high school softball action Monday at Lake City.
Anna Mason gained the win, working six innings, allowing five hits while striking out nine Lady Indians.
Caron Smith cracked a double, singled twice, had two RBI and scored two runs to lead the Lady Rebel offense. Katie Towery delivered a pair of singles, scored three times and had three RBI. Whitney Wagganor singled, doubled, drove in a run and scored once. Mason helped her own cause with a pair of singles and two runs scored. Alexis Boatman belted an RBI single and scored a run while Ashlynn Wright had a base hit. Carmen Campbell scored twice and had two RBI while Mallory Felton had an RBI and scored a pair of runs. Hannah Shinall scored once and drove in a run.
Riverside fell 11-0 to Westside Tuesday on the road. The Lady Warriors held a slim 2-0 lead entering the bottom of the fifth but put five runs on the board to take a 7-0 lead. Westside added four more in the sixth to finish off the game.
Gracye Cureton picked up the win, striking out 10 Lady Rebels. Valerie Bowen paced Westside’s offense with two hits and three RBI.
Mason, Boatman, Wright and Smith all had singles for the Lady Rebels. Towery took the loss.
Riverside ended the week, falling 15-1 to Brookland Thursday at Lake City. The Lady Bearcats held a slim 2-1 edge after four innings, but scored four runs in the fifth, three in the sixth and six more runs in the seventh inning to put the game away.
Brookland hammered three homeruns on the day, highlighted by Keirstin Hammett’s three run shot. Makenzie McMellon clobbered a two-run blast while Ashlyn Matthews added a solo bomb.
Matthews picked up the win, going the distance, scattering seven hits while striking out 10 Lady Rebels.
Campbell, Towery and Mason all had two singles apiece while Wagganor cracked an RBI base hit for Riverside’s only run.
The Lady Rebels close the regular season on the road. Riverside visits Buffalo Island Central Monday before traveling to Armorel Tuesday. The Lady Rebels will begin District Tournament play Thursday at RIvercrest.
