Rivercrest and Trumann sweep Lady Rebels
Riverside lost a doubleheader Monday afternoon to Rivercrest before falling at Trumann Tuesday in high school softball action last week.
Rivercrest pounded out a 13-0 victory over the Lady Rebels in the opener Monday at Lake City before completing the sweep with a 12-2 win in the nightcap.
Bailee Henard threw a three-inning no-hitter for the Lady Colts, striking out four and walking one. Railee Powell laced three hits and drove in four runs to lead the Rivercrest offense.
Katie Towery suffered the loss for Riverside, working three innings, allowing nine earned runs on 10 hits. Mallory Felton was Riverside’s lone base runner, drawing a walk.
In the nightcap, Sydney Shempert fired a two-hitter for the Lady Colts. Shempert clubbed three hits while driving in four runs.
Trumann rode the right arm of Anna Waleszonia in the Lady Wildcats’ victory over Riverside. Waleszonia pitched five innings, allowing one earned run on five hits. The senior fanned four and walked one.
Waleszonia helped her own cause with a pair of hits, two RBI and a run scored. Daly Taylor drilled a pair of singles while Olivia Greenwell slammed a bases-loaded double.
Towery absorbed the loss, going four 1/3 innings. The sophomore allowed 11 runs, seven earned, nine hits, fanned two and walked seven.
Towery, Whitney Wagganer, Anna Mason, Hannah Shinall, and Alexis Boatman all had singles for Riverside. Wagganer and Mason scored Riverside’s runs.
The Lady Rebels return to the diamond Monday when they host Marked Tree at Lake City. Riverside travels to Westside Tuesday before closing the week with a home game Thursday against Brookland.
