Lady Lions notch victories over Piggott and Gosnell
Manila Lady Lions evened their record on the year at 8-8, picking up wins over Piggott and Gosnell in high school softball action last week. The Lady Lions opened play by clubbing Piggott 11-3 Monday before shutting out Gosnell 4-0 Tuesday at Lion Field.
Sasha Pannells cracked three singles and scored three times while Brailey Hampton drilled a pair of singles and scored twice to lead the Manila hitting attack against Piggott. Ashten Wallace walloped an RBI double and scored a run while Sydney Adcock, Jill Helton and Madison Bibbs all rapped RBI singles and scored one run apiece. Ashlyn Jolly drove in a run and scored once while Micah Lancaster scored a run.
Wallace picked up the win, working seven innings, allowing three runs, none of which were earned. Wallace fanned 12, walked five and scattered six hits.
Wallace fired a complete game six-hit shutout in Manila’s 4-0 win over the Lady Pirates. Wallace whiffed seven and walked none.
Manila got on the board in the bottom of the first when Bibbs slapped an RBI single. The Lady Lions scored three more runs in the fifth inning. Helton whacked a two-run double while Hampton also added an RBI. Wallace helped her own cause, cracking a double. Pannells singled and scored twice while Adcock and Lancaster both crossed home plate one time each.
Manila returns to action Monday when they play host to Marked Tree. The Lady Lions visit Westside Tuesday before finishing the week with a home game against Brookland on Thursday.
