Lady Rebels outslug Rector and Bay
Riverside pulled out the lumber and slugged their way to a pair of victories in high school softball action last week. The Lady Rebels clubbed Rector 9-4 Monday at Lake City before hammering out a 20-10 victory Friday at home over Bay.
The Lady Rebels trailed Rector 1-0 entering the fourth inning but scored three times to take a 3-1 lead. Riverside tacked on three more in the fifth and added another three- spot in the sixth to pull away for the victory.
Freshman Anna Mason picked up the win, working seven innings, allowing just one earned run on six hits. Mason fanned six and didnít issue a walk.
Mason helped herself at the plate with a single, a double, and two RBI. Ashlynn Wright laced three singles and scored a run, Carson Smith singled, tripled, had an RBI, and scored twice while Katie Towery cracked a single, a double and scored a run. Hannah Shinall blasted a two-run single and scored a run. Alexis Boatman drilled an RBI single, Carmen Campbell singled and scored twice, while Whitney Wagganor had a base hit and scored a run. Mallory Felton crossed the plate once.
In Fridayís game, Riverside overcame a 6-3 deficit, scoring 16 unanswered runs to down Bay 20-10. Mason earned the victory, allowing eight runs on eight hits.
Smith clobbered a two-run homer while adding a single and scoring five runs to lead the Lady Rebel offense. Wright belted a double, a triple, had three RBI and scored twice. Mason singled, doubled, drove in three runs, and scored three times. Boatman walloped a triple, had three RBI, scored once, and walked three times. Campbell cracked a two-run single and scored a run, Towery singled, scored three times and drew three walks, while Wagganor had a base hit and scored twice. Haven Robertson walked three times and scored twice while Shinall scored a run.
Anne Marie Wood had two hits and three RBI while Mallory Hartley added a pair of hits for the Lady Yellowjackets.
Riverside returns to the diamond Monday when they play host to Rivercrest. The Lady Rebels travel to Trumann for a Tuesday contest.
