Lady Lions hold off Marked Tree 8-6
Manila Lady Lions built an 8-1 lead before holding off a late Marked Tree rally to post an 8-6 victory over the Lady Indians Thursday on the road. Manila finished the week by hammering out a 12-0 shutout win Friday against Armorel.
Manila scored two runs in the first inning against Marked Tree before tacking on three more in the third and fourth innings to build an 8-1 advantage. But the Lady Indians fought back, scoring a single run in the sixth before tacking on four more in the bottom of the seventh. Manila out-hit Marked Tree 10-7. The Lady Lions committed four errors, but Marked Tree had nine miscues on the day.
Ashten Wallace gained the win, throwing a complete game, allowing six runs, just one earned. Wallace allowed seven hits, fanned nine and issued five bases on balls.
Wallace helped her own cause, cracking three singles and scoring a run. Jill Helton singled, tripled and scored twice. Ali Smith cranked a pair of singles, had two RBI, and scored a run. Sasha Pannells belted an RBI triple and scored run while Madison Bibbs hammered an RBI triple and scored twice. Brailey Hampton knocked a double while Ashlyn Jolly scored a run.
Wallace fired a two-hit shutout in Manila’s victory over Armorel. Jolly led the Lady Lions offensively, walloping a double, a triple and adding two RBI and three runs scored. Bibbs had a pair of RBI singles and scored a run. Pannells doubled in a run and scored twice, Smith laced a pair of singles and scored a run while Presley Pierce had a two-run single. Helton smacked a double and scored twice while Wallace and Hampton both crossed the plate once.
The Lady Lions return to action Monday when they travel to Lepanto for a double-header against East Poinsett County. Manila takes to the road again Thursday where they will face Riverside at Lake City. The Lady Lions will play in the Wynne Tournament Friday and Saturday.
