Lady Lions win two games in Bearcat Blast
Manila took two out of three games in the Bearcat Blast held Friday and Saturday in Jonesboro. The Lady Lions kicked off the tournament with a 7-5 victory Friday over Metro East Lutheran.
Manila scored five runs in the third inning and closed out the win, despite having only two hits on the day. Ashten Wallace picked up the win, working three and one third innings, allowing four runs and two hits while striking out nine and walking six. Sasha Pannells gained the save, going an inning and two-thirds, allowing one run on two hits.
Pannells lined a two-run triple to highlight Manila’s five run third inning. Ashlyn Jolly tripled, scored twice and had three RBI while Madison Bibbs crossed the plate twice. Brailey Hampton and Micah Lancaster both scored one run apiece.
Manila held off Cave City 5-2 Saturday. Wallace threw a two-hitter, surrendering just two runs, both unearned, to gain the victory. Wallace struck out 13 Cavewomen and allowed three walks.
Jolly cracked a two-run double and scored once, Ali Smith belted a two-run double while Jill Helton singled twice and scored two runs. Bibbs singled twice and scored once, Hampton singled and scored a run while Beth Rawson cracked a single.
Hoxie scored twice in the bottom of the sixth and squeezed past Manila 4-3 Saturday in the Bearcat Blast. The Lady Lions out-hit Hoxie 7-2, but committed three costly errors. Hoxie helped themselves, stealing 10 bases on the day.
Wallace worked five and two-thirds innings and suffered the loss, despite giving up just one earned run. Wallace allowed two hits, fanned 12 and walked one.
Pannells had an RBI single while Helton drove in a pair of runs. Bibbs and Adcock both singled and scored runs, Smith hammered a triple, Jolly and Hampton both slammed doubles while Wallace added a single.
The Lady Lions began the week, dropping a 6-3 decision Monday at Paragould before losing to Brookland 15-2 Tuesday at Lion Field.
Paragould scored four runs in the fifth inning to double up Manila. Ariel Young was the winner for the Lady Rams while M.G. Tilley picked up the save. Macy Carter banged a double and a triple and drove in a run while Jade Stanley went 2-3 and scored three times. Taylor Beasley mashed a two-run double.
Wallace absorbed the loss for the Lady Lions, working six innings, allowing six earned runs on eight hits. Wallace gave up 10 walks.
Smith had a pair of singles and an RBI, Helton and Bibbs both cracked singles and scored one run each while Hampton and Lancaster both had base hits. Pannells drove in a run while Jolly scored once.
Brookland put together a nine-run third inning and added six more in the fifth, overcoming an early 2-0 deficit to down Manila Tuesday.
Ashlyn Matthews earned the win, allowing two runs and four hits while striking out seven. Matthews also added two singles and three RBI. Jacy Harris belted a bases loaded double and scored a run, Keirstin Hammett singled twice, drove in two runs and scored once. Helena Garcia had a pair of hits and a run scored while Caitlin McClain added a single, two RBI and scored twice.
Pannells was the losing pitcher for Manila, allowing 10 runs, four earned on eight hits. Wallace worked an inning and a third, allowing five runs and two hits.
Pannells bashed a run-scoring double and scored a run, Smith slammed an RBI double while Helton and Hampton both singled.
The Lady Lions will resume play Tuesday at Harrisburg.
