Lady Rebel softball windup
Riversideís Lady Rebels took two of three games in last weekendís Bearcat Blast in Jonesboro. Riverside began the tournament by thrashing Pocahontas 10-3 Friday. The Lady Rebels came up short in a 5-2 loss to Gosnell Saturday before bouncing back to pound Hazen 11-4.
Anna Mason gained the victory in the win over Pocahontas, pitching five innings, allowing three runs, two earned. Mason scattered six hits, struck out 10 and walked one.
Mallory Felton and Carson Smith both singled and doubled. Smith drove in two runs and scored once while Felton had an RBI and a run scored. Mason slammed a bases-loaded triple and scored a run while Katie Towery banged two singles, had an RBI and scored twice. Hannah Shinall cracked a pair of singles and scored a run. Alexis Boatman and Whitney Wagganor bashed RBI singles and scored a run apiece while Ashlynn Wright singled and scored twice.
Towery took the loss against Gosnell, despite giving up just three earned runs while striking out 12 Lady Pirates. Towery surrendered seven hits but didnít issue a walk.
Riverside struggled at the plate, getting just one hit, an RBI single by Shinall. Mason and Carmen Campbell scored the two Lady Rebel runs.
Riverside fell behind Hazen 4-0 after the top of the first, but the Lady Rebels charged back, scoring five runs in the bottom of the inning and went on to roll past Hazen 11-4. Riverside out-hit Hazen 10-2.
Mason threw a complete game two-hitter, allowing four runs, none earned. Campbell had a pair of RBI singles and scored twice, Felton singled, drove in three runs and scored once while Wright singled twice, had an RBI and crossed the plate two times. Smith smashed an RBI double and scored a pair of runs while Robertson and Shinall both cracked two-run singles. Mason and Towery both singled and scored two runs each.
The Lady Rebels began the week by slipping past Piggott 8-7 Monday on the road. Riverside built an 8-0 lead entering the bottom of the sixth but watched the host Lady Mohawks score seven runs to slice the Riverside advantage to one. Neither team could score in the final inning as the Lady Rebels held on for the win.
Towery went the distance, allowing 12 hits while striking out nine. Towery gave up seven runs, only one of which was earned. Smith had three singles, two RBI and scored three times while Felton belted a single, a double, scored twice and drove in a run. Towery singled, doubled and crossed the plate three times. Mason sliced an RBI single, Campbell had a base hit while Wright added an RBI.
Riverside returns to the diamond March 26 when they travel to Hoxie to take on the Lady Mustangs.
