Lady Mustangs close regular season with come from behind win over Armorel
Buffalo Island Central Lady Mustangs finished the regular season celebrating Senior Night with a come from behind 44-33 victory over Armorel Saturday at the Mustang Athletic Complex in Monette.
The Lady Tigers led 7-5 after the first break and took a slim 18-17 edge into the dressing room at the half. Armorel stretched its advantage to 28-21 after three quarters. BIC outscored the Lady Tigers 23-5 in the final frame to rally for the victory.
Haddyn Hurst pumped in a game high26 points to lead the Lady Mustangs while Morgan James added nine points and 12 rebounds. Ayrielle Appleton paced Armorel with 18 points.
In the junior high contest, Armorel came out victorious, defeating BIC 33-24.
The Lady Mustangs traveled to Rector Thursday night and came back with a 42-39 defeat at the hands of the Lady Cougars. The game was square, 7-7, after the first break, before BIC moved ahead 22-15 at the half. Rector fought back in the third quarter, taking a 31-30 edge into the last stanza.
Kenna Parrish scored a game high 21 points to lead Rector, who finished 11-19 from the foul stripe while dropping in eight three-point bombs.
Brianna Lambert topped BIC with 14 points. Hurst scored eight, Heather Sipes and Holly Stockton tallied six points each while James chipped in five. The Lady Mustangs connected on 10-23 foul shots and downed five three pointers.
BIC began the week by crushing Marked Tree, 65-35. BIC led 14-8 after the first quarter, 29-15 at the half and 43-27 after three periods of play.
Sipes scored a game high 20 points to pace BIC while Lambert buried five three pointers on her way to 15 points. James netted nine, Stockton contributed seven, Cates finished with six, Vicky Esparza dropped in five while Harley Miller added three points. BIC made 8-13 free throws and drilled nine treys.
Jayla Carter paced the Lady Indians with 16 points. Marked went 9-17 from the foul stripe and hit four three pointers.
In the junior high contest, Marked Tree doubled up BIC, 33-16. Makayla Marshall just missed a quadruple-double, scoring 21 points, snaring 14 boards and delivering 10 steals, while blocking seven shots for the Lady Indians.
