Manila picks up road win at Trumann

Manila led from start to finish as the Lions downed Trumann 84-67 in high school basketball action this past Friday at Wildcat Gym.

The Lions jumped out to a 7-0 lead at Bradey Woodall got a steal and layup before Brock Birmingham canned a three-pointer and added a jumper as Ben Turner hit a jumper in the lane for the Wildcats to make it 7-2.

Woodall drilled a three-pointer for Manila, MJ Barnes made two free throws for Trumann, Daley Belew canned a three-ball for the Lions to make it 13-4 Manila. Turner scored inside for the Wildcats, Daley Belew hit a jumper in the lane for Manila as Trumann got an inside basket and one of two free throws from Turner making it 15-9 Lions with 2:20 left.

Dalton Hitchcock scored inside for Manila as Daley Belew converted an old-school three-point play for the Lions to push their lead to 20-9. Zach Buchanan hit two free throws for the Wildcats, Birmingham hit two free throws for Manila before Turner hit two free throws from Trumann to make the score 21-13 Lions after one.

Dakota Craig canned a three-pointer for the Wildcats to open the second quarter scoring as Woodall hit a jumper for Manila to make it 23-16 Lions. Trumann got a three-ball and a basket inside from Turner before Daley Belew drilled a three-pointer for Manila to make it 26-21 Lions.

Barnes hit one of two free throws and Turner netted a three-pointer for the Wildcats before Daley Belew made back to back baskets for the Lions making it 30-25 Manila with 2:13 left. Turner hit a jumper and a three-pointer for the Wildcats, Daley Belew hit a jumper in the lane for the Lions as Turner hit one of two free throws for Trumann to make it 32-31 Manila.

Daley Belew canned a trey for Manila, Barnes scored in the paint for the Wildcats before Daley Belew hit two technical free throws for the Lions making it 37-33 Manila. Turner got a steal and two-handed slam dunk for the Wildcats as Hitchcock hit two free throws for Lions with one second left to make it 39-35 Manila at the half.

Turner stuffed home a two-handed dunk off of an alley-oop to start the third quarter for Trumann as Birmingham scored inside for Manila making it 41-37 Lions. Cody Roland hit a three-pointer for the Wildcats, Trenton Thomas got a stick back basket for Manila before Birmingham hit two free throws to push the Lions' lead to 45-40.

Jacob Ferguson canned a three-ball for Trumann, Woodall converted an old-fashioned three-point play for Manila, Turner scored inside for the Wildcats as Thomas scored inside for the Lions making it 50-45 Manila with 4:03 left. Ferguson drilled another three-pointer for the Wildcats, Abraham Lopez netted a three-ball for the Lions followed by two free throws from Woodall to give Manila a 55-48 lead.

Ferguson hit two technical free throws for Trumann, Thomas scored inside for the Lions as Birmingham canned a three-ball for Manila making it 60-50 Lions. Alex Moses got inside for a score for Trumann, Abraham Lopez hit another three-ball for the Lions before Conner Belew canned a three-pointer for Manila increasing their lead to 66-52 at the end of three.

Turner again slammed home a dunk to start the fourth quarter and added the free throw after being fouled on the play only to see Manila get three straight three-pointers, two from Birmingham around one from Abraham Lopez to make it 75-55 Lions. Hitchcock scored inside for the Lions as Barnes made back to back baskets for the Wildcats making it 77-59 Manila with 4:04 left.

Moses hit one of two free throws for Trumann and followed with a basket inside before Conner Belew drilled a three-pointer for Manila to make it 80-62 Lions. Trumann got a basket down low from Turner, Abraham Lopez hit two free throws for Manila as Brian Gonzalez got a stick back basket for the Lions to make it 84-64 Manila. Seth Smith hit a late three-pointer for the Wildcats to set the final score at 84-67 Manila.

Daley Belew led Manila with 22 points as Birmingham added 18 points. Woodall tossed in 12 points, Abraham Lopez netted 11 points, Hitchcock had seven points, Conner Belew and Thomas had six points each as Gonzalez chipped in two points for the Lions.

Turner led all scorers with 31 points for the Wildcats with Barnes finishing with nine points. Moses and Ferguson scored eight points each, Craig, Roland and Smith each scored three points as Buchanan added two points for Trumann.

The Junior Lions won the junior high game 58-26.
