Bay sweeps past BIC boys and girls
Bay rallied from five down in the fourth quarter and slipped past Buffalo Island Central 47-44 in senior boys basketball action Tuesday night at the Mustang Athletic Complex in Monette.
The Mustangs held a 17-11 lead after the first break and carried a 29-25 advantage into the dressing room at intermission. BIC enjoyed a 40-35 lead heading into the fourth quarter, before the Yellowjackets stormed from behind to pull out the victory.
Sophomore Josh Willard pumped in 16 points to pace Bay while Layne Austin added 15. Chayse Carmichael topped BIC with 14 points while Canon Walling chipped in 13.
In junior boys action, Bay outlasted BIC 25-15. Braydon Smith paced the Yellowjackets with 11 points. Grady Peel topped the Mustangs with five, Brayden Carmichael scored four, Nathan Brinkley netted three, Matthew McMinn tallied two while Parker Anderson chipped in one point.
In senior girls action, defending 1A State Champion Bay downed the Lady Mustangs 41-35. Mallory Hartley poured in 26 points to lead the Lady Yellowjackets while Brianna Lambert paced BIC with 12.
In junior high action, BIC defeated Bay 22-15. Lexi Riley led the Lady Mustangs with 12 points.
The Lady Mustangs traveled to Marmaduke Thursday night and fell to the Lady Greyhounds, 56-36. Marmaduke led 18-9 after the first quarter and stretched their lead to 30-13 at the half. The Lady Greyhounds carried a 46-22 advantage into the final frame.
Marmaduke placed three players in double digits, led by Natalie Lentz, who scored 14. Scout Weatherford tallied 12 while Emma Foster added 11.
Morgan James paced BIC with 10 points.
In junior high action, Marmaduke rolled over BIC 49-21. Miranda Crowe led the Greyhounds with 17 points.
BICís boys and girls return to action Monday afternoon with a home game against Earle before both squads travel for a return match against the Bulldogs on Friday.
