Fisher's eight three-pointers propel Riverside past Trumann
Riverside’s Bailey Fisher knocked down eight three-pointers to help the Lady Rebels overcome a sluggish performance in a 61-40 victory over Trumann Thursday night at Wildcat Gymnasium.
Both teams sleepwalked through the opening quarter, with Riverside holding a slim 7-6 edge. The Lady Rebels came out smoking from beyond the three-point arc in the second stanza, knocking down five triples, two each by Fisher and Brittney Sain, and another from Lotti Hoffman, to take a seemingly comfortable 32-18 halftime advantage.
But the Lady Wildcats stormed out of the gate in the third quarter, scoring 12 unanswered points to close the gap to 32-30 at the 4:17 mark. Kayla Spence opened and closed the Trumann scoring barrage with two deep three pointers. Fisher finally got Riverside’s first points of the second half with a long three of her own with 4:04 remaining, and followed with three more long range bombs to close the quarter, putting the lady Rebels back on top, 44-30.
Riverside continued to pull away from Trumann in the final frame, and finished the game with a 21-point victory. The win pushes the Lady Rebels’ season record to 21-1.
Fisher pumped in a game high 26 points to lead Riverside. Sain tallied 13 while Hoffman finished with 11. Carson Smith scored five, Haven Robertson had three, Hailey Carr netted two while Whitney Wagganor contributed one point. The Lady Rebels were 7-10 from the foul stripe and knocked down 14 three pointers.
Spence, Anna Waleszonia and Tay Smith all scored eight points each to lead Trumann.
The junior Lady Rebels downed Trumann 39-31 to improve to 16-7 on the season. Beaner Hoffman poured in 26 points to pace Riverside.
The Lady Rebels return to action Monday night when they play host to 4A Brookland at Lake City. Riverside closes the week with a home game Thursday night against Manila.
