Lions sink Pirates 60-50
Manila raised its record to 12-4 on the season with a 60-50 victory over Gosnell Friday night on the road.
The Lions led 12-4 after the first quarter, but the Pirates rallied in the second period to slice their deficit to 21-20 at the half. Manila upped its margin to 35-29 entering the fourth quarter.
The Lions placed three players in double figures, led by Joel Burrow’s game high 19-point performance. Bradey Woodall pumped in 12 while Trenton Thomas added 11. Daley Belew scored eight, Brock Birmingham tallied six while Brian Gonzalez contributed four points. The Lions were sharp from the foul line, draining 24 of 27 attempts. Manila dropped in two three pointers.
Jordan Lewis topped the Pirates with 17 points while Brandon Porter added 12. Gosnell made 4-8 foul shots and didn’t connect from the three-point line.
In the junior high game, Manila crushed Gosnell 57-36. Three Lions recorded double digits, led by Ty Wagner, who pumped in 18 points. Brayden Mattingly netted 16 while Austin Harmon tallied 12. Tyler Perez scored four, Jake Baltimore had three while Matthew Gipson and Jaron Burrow added two points each.
Manila will return to the hardcourt Tuesday night when they play host to 4A power Westside. The Lions will host rival Riverside Friday night at Lion Gym.
