Mustangs hold off Cross County, lose to undefeated Marked Tree
Andrew McFarlin and Canon Walling pumped in 22 points apiece, helping Buffalo Island Central hold off Cross County 52-47 in senior boys basketball action Tuesday night at the Mustang Athletic Complex in Monette.
The Mustangs held a slim 18-17 edge at the half before increasing their margin to 39-30 after three periods of play.
Hunter Like paced the Thunderbirds with 18 points.
In the junior high game, A.J. Beall scored 12 points to lead Cross County to a 38-29 victory over the Mustangs. Matthew McMinn topped BIC with 10.
In Friday night action, Marked Tree remained unbeaten at 13-0 with a 35-23 victory over BIC. The Indians led 8-3 after the first break and held a 13-9 advantage at intermission. Marked Tree led 23-17 entering the fourth quarter.
Markel Perry-Washington recorded a double-double to lead the Indians, scoring 14 points while snaring 10 boards. Perry-Washington also dished out five assists, blocked three shots and had a pair of steals. Paul Coleman and Colby Malone added eight points each for Marked Tree.
McFarlin and Walling paced the Mustangs with 10 and eight points respectively.
In junior high play, the Indians defeated BIC 48-39. B.J. Marshall led Marked Tree with 14 points while Grady Peel paced the Mustangs with 13.
BIC will return to action Tuesday night when they play host to Bay. The Mustangs will finish the week by hosting Armorel Friday night at Monette.
