Caraway Council holds December meeting
Caraway Council members met Thursday, Dec. 14, for the last regular meeting of the year, adopting Ordinance 2017-7, hiring a new patrolman and recognizing the new fire chief.
Mayor Barry Riley as well as all council members, John Boatman, Mitchell Tipton, Bo James, Roger Williams, Marvin Browning and Jerry Martin, were present.
The Council voted unanimously to adopt Ordinance 2017-7 on the third reading. The ordinance allows the council to pass future ordinances and add them later to the books as code.
Mayor Riley said David Choate had been hired as a new patrolman in the police department. He is a certified officer. Curtis Taylor has been named as the new Caraway Fire Department Chief.
In other business:
*Mayor Riley informed the council Roger Bell would not be leasing the city rodeo arena in 2018.
*The budgets for 2018 were discussed and will be voted on at the January meeting.
*Mayor Riley commended Roger Williams and all who helped with the Christmas parade saying it was a very good parade.
*Water superintendent Terry Couch informed the council on the progress being made on the wastewater plant.
*Taking applications to replace Johnny Boatman with the water department was discussed.
*Council discussed a city ordinance to regulate placing mobile homes in the city.
*Clean-up of properties was discussed.
