Wayne Shedd, 80, of Manila, died Friday, Dec. 8, 2017, at his home. He was the son of Manila pioneers, Ira D. and Martha Lorette Alston Shedd, and was a 1956 graduate of Manila High School. As a young man, Wayne had the distinction of being the first lifeguard at the city swimming pool, a position that became tradition as his daughter and granddaughter followed in his footsteps working as lifeguards. He graduated from Arkansas State College with a degree in business administration before serving in the U.S. Army. Wayne began his career in the insurance industry working as an insurance adjuster for the General Adjustment Bureau for several years as he and his wife, Linda, lived throughout the state before returning to Manila and joining the family business. He worked with his parents in the dry cleaning business as well as the Misco Insurance Agency that has now become a third generation family business. He was an avid golfer and an active member of the Big Lake Country Club. Wayne had a heart for community service and served on many boards and committees including the Manila Housing Authority, Manila Cemetery Association, Manila Industrial Development Commission, and 45 years as a member of the Manila Lions Club. He was also involved with the Arkansas State University Alumni Association. A man of great faith, Wayne was a longtime member and deacon of the Manila First Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Martha Donner and Frieda Felts, and a son-in-law, Daniel Kempf.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Linda Davis Shedd of Manila; one son and daughter-in-law, David and Trena Shedd of Manila; two daughters and sons-in-law, Connie and Patrick Niederkorn of Rector and Angie and Mark Schleiff of Arkadelphia. He also leaves a brother and sister-in-law, Dr. L.L. Shedd and wife, Marcia of Paragould; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, and four step-great-grandchildren.
