Lady Rebels stay unbeaten with wins over Manila and Osceola
Riverside remained unbeaten with a convincing 74-28 victory over Manila Monday night at Lion Gym. The Lady Rebels used a suffocating full court press, forcing the Lady Lions into a whopping 37 turnovers on the night.
Riverside jumped to a 17-8 lead after the first quarter as six different players put points on the board. Brittney Sain got hot in the second stanza, scoring eight points, as the Lady Rebels exploded to a 43-12 halftime advantage. Riverside continued to cruise in the third quarter, leading 66-24 entering the final frame.
The Lady Rebels placed 12 players in the scoring column, led by Sainís 14. Bailey Fisher also hit double digits, scoring 12. Haven Robertson and sophomore Grace Ann Puckett tallied eight points apiece, Briley Douglas netted seven while Carson Smith and Hailey Carr contributed six points each. Whitney Wagganor had five while Hattie Milligan, Mallory Felton, Lexi Hall and Lotti Hoffman all added two points apiece. Riverside hit 4-8 free throws and drained nine three pointers.
Brailey Hampton topped Manila with nine points, Sydney Adcock dropped in seven, Jill Helton scored six while Micah Beach, Andi Baker and Meg Gifford pitched in two points apiece. The Lady Lions went 4-9 from the line and hit two three pointers.
In junior high action, Riverside downed Manila 42-29. Beaner Hoffman pumped in a game high 15 to lead the Lady Rebels. Alexis Courtney scored eight, Anna Meurer had five, Payton Douglas netted four while Lexi Moyer contributed three. Julie Hutchison, Cailey Qualls and Hannah Gosa added two points each. Alexis Boatman chipped in one point.
Madison Hitchcock and Olivia May paced the Lady Lions with eight points apiece. Ashten Wallace scored six while Sadie Massey, Sadie McDonald and Kasidy Tate had two points each. Kara Watts added one point for Manila.
Riverside traveled to Osceola Thursday night and thrashed the Lady Seminoles 78-45 to improve to 12-0 on the season. Robertson and Sain toped the Lady Rebels with 14 points apiece. Hoffman scored 12 while Douglas added 11 more.
In the junior high game, Courtney poured in 18 points to lead the Lady Rebels to a 55-10 win, while Meurer, Qualls and Hoffman all added 10 points apiece.
Riverside return to action Monday night when they travel to Gosnell to take on the Lady Pirates. The Lady Rebels will compete in the Gerald Jennings Tournament Friday and Saturday at Lake City. Riverside meets Hoxie Friday before taking on Batesville Saturday.
Brookland played poor hosts Thursday night, pounding out a 59-22 victory over Manila. Kalifa Ford led the Lady Bearcats with 17 points while Taylor Hammett added 15.
Brookland also won the junior high contest, 44-15.
The Lady Lions return to the hardcourt Monday night when they travel to Osceola. Manila closes the week hosting Harrisburg on Thursday.
