Author Steve Watkins (seated) enjoyed visiting with high school classmates, Missy Clark, Tina Carmichael, Carol McFarlin and Brayde Cornish, at his book signing event held in Monette.

Author Steve Watkins enjoyed returning to his hometown for a book signing on Sunday afternoon as he recently released his first book, Pilgrim Strong, a memoir/travelogue of his 40 day, 500 mile pilgrimage. The walk took him across the ancient path of the Camino de Santiago (Way of St. James) from St. Jean Pied de Port, France, to Santiago de Compostela, Spain.

The event was held at Monette City Hall.

He received a special gift from his 1984 classmates. Watkins was among the last Monette High School graduating class of 1984.

Classmates Carol McFarlin, Tina Carmichael, Brayde Cornish and Missy Clark, representing the MHS Class of 1984, presented Watkins with a framed ISBN number (International Standard Book Number) for Pilgrim Strong.

Watkins expressed his appreciation to his classmates for such a thoughtful gift.

“We always knew he would do something big,” McFarlin said. “He never settled for mediocre.”

Pilgrim Strong is available through Amazon or from Watkins' blog page pilgrimstrong.com.
