Nona Rogers said she feels honored to be chosen to be Grand Marshal for the 2017 Leachville Christmas Parade.

Rogers said she has seen a lot of Christmas lights, a lot of snow and watched many parades in her 87 years but this will be her first to serve as grand marshal.

Born in Walnut Ridge, she moved, with her family (Lynn and Neta Snow), to the Pawheen community in 1936.

“We arrived just in time for the flood,” she said. She made Leachville her home until she married Chester Rogers and moved to Boston, Mass., for the next 25 years.

Mr. and Mrs. Rogers, along with their two youngest daughters, Elaine McClain and Diane Davis, moved to Leachville in 1973.

She has two sons, Lynn and Charles, who live in Boston and Florida.

Mrs. Rogers is a long-time member of the Leachville Methodist Church.

She enjoys Christmas and is looking forward to kicking off the Christmas season right after Thanksgiving.

The Leachville parade is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 27. Mrs. Rogers will be joining Santa at Leachville City Hall following the parade. Children are invited to come by city hall after the parade and have their pictures made with Santa.

“I hope we have a great night for the parade and I want to invite everyone to come out and join us,” Mrs. Rogers said.
