Junior High Rebels, Lady Rebels finish runner-up at Bay Invitatinal
Riverside’s junior high boys and girls both advanced to the finals of the Bay Invitational Tournament Saturday afternoon, but both teams fell short in their bid for the tournament championship, as Valley View handed the boys their first defeat of the year, 51-29, while the girls dropped a 33-23 decision to Marmaduke.
In the boys contest, the Rebels stayed close after the first quarter, trailing just 11-9. The Blazers opened a 12 point halftime lead, 26-14. Valley View doubled its advantage after three quarters, 36-18, coasting the rest of the way home.
Jawan Yarbrough topped the Blazers with 11 points while Grayson Emery paced Riverside with 14. Ethan Boatman scored five, J.M. Shinall had four while Trever Mangrum, M.J. Wilkinson and Brennen Laird all added two points apiece for the Rebels.
In the junior girls championship, Marmaduke led 6-2 after the opening quarter and took a 17-12 lead into the dressing room at the half. The Lady Greyhounds stretched their advantage to 29-16 after three periods of play.
Heidi Robinson led Marmaduke with 12 points. Beaner Hoffman topped the Lady Rebels with seven, Cailey Qualls scored five, Alexis Courtney and Alexis Boatman tallied four points apiece while Payton Douglas added three.
