Lady Rebels remain unbeaten

Riverside used a 25-8 third quarter surge to rally past Bay 60-48 in senior girls basketball action Monday night at Lake City. The Lady Yellowjackets jumped to a 13-6 lead after the first quarter and held a 28-22 halftime advantage. But Riverside regrouped at intermission and put together a big third period, outscoring Bay by 17 to take a 47-36 lead into the final frame.

Haven Robertson led the Lady Rebels with 19 points. Sophomores Grace Ann Puckett and Hailey Carr also hit double digits, scoring 12 and 11 points respectively. Bailey Fisher tallied seven, Hattie Milligan had six, Whitney Wagganor contributed three while Briley Douglas pitched in two points. Riverside sank 14-19 foul shots and drilled eight three pointers.

Mallory Hartley produced a double-double for the Lady Yellowjackets, scoring 21 points while pulling down 11 boards. Sarah Blackman pumped in 15 while Abby Frisby added 12. Bay hit 15-19 free throws and made two treys.

In the junior high contest, Riverside rolled past Bay 53-22. Beaner Hoffman pumped in 20 points and came away with 11 steals to lead the Lady Rebels. Anna Meurer scored eight, Cailey Qualls and Payton Douglas tallied six points each while Savannah Lee added four. Alexis Courtney, Hannah Gosa, Lexi Moyer and Sarah Gallapoo all contributed two points apiece.

Riverside remained undefeated at 8-0 with a 60-22 thumping of East Poinsett County Thursday night at Lake City. The Lady Rebels held EPC to just two first half points, a basket by Markiya Ward. Riverside led 16-2 after the first quarter, 30-2 at the half and 52-13 after three periods of play.

The Lady Rebels placed 12 players in the scoring column, led by Robertsonís 12. Fisher and Brittney Sain scored eight points apiece, Puckett and Lexi Hall had six points each, Wagganor and Carson Smith tallied four while Lotti Hoffman and Mallory Felton both chipped in three points apiece. Douglas, Carr and Ashlyn Wright each added two points for the Lady Rebels.

In the junior high game, Riverside blitzed EPC 57-27. Hoffman ripped the nets, scoring 25 points to lead the Lady Rebels, while Qualls pumped in 14 more. Alexis Boatman scored six, Courtney, Lee and Mackenzie Thomas all chipped in three points apiece. Meurer netted two while Douglas added one point.

The Lady Rebels travel to Hoxie to take on the defending 3A State Champion Lady Mustangs Monday night.
